Guwahati Half 2014

[Plan] [1] [2]
Green Valley bus was ready at 0430 to take us to the race start point from IIT campus. By the time the bus started it was already 0530. Then it was the race start point. Unlike other races they started registration giving bib number, which was strange. 21K run started around 0700, early morning sun, running by the Brahmaputra river was a unique experience. Since there was no timing chip and everything was manual. As per my own calculations I finished within 0230 bus. Overall race was okay, water glucose points were at every km mark, a running ambulance too. But medical facility on round was lacking. I asked for spray as my knee started giving me pain after 15 km mark, but there was none.

Apart from that a good run, in a different location: in city of eastern Jones.

Airport was some 24 kms from the run finishing point and auto wallah charged me 400 bucks for an hour ride.

Flight was delayed by 30 min, however, was able to cover up half of it. A walk and bus ride; I was at my place.

CRPF Half Marathon 2014

Sunday, 12th Oct is the race day, starting JLN stadium – circling india gate – return from jantar mantar.
Just collected the goodie bag kit and bib number is going to be 116.
Well! with no preparation at all this time its going to be another painful day.

It was a mess at the kit distribution. It was supposed to open at 0930 but due to some technical issues ‘as per the announcement there’ distribution started around 1130 for half marathon category. CRPF was blaming BookMyShow agents and vice versa for the problem.

Those who are looking for directions – get down at JLN stadium gate no 4 > go straight > take left at the gate to CRPF ground and you will see some tents with serial numbers. First you have to get into a queue for your bib number, note down that bib number & serial number. That serial number is the tent you have to get lined for the goodie bag (running bib & chip, t-shirt (XL) and a cap).

Happy Running!!!

EDIT:- Completed the race. timing 024500 hrs.

Mussoorie Half Marathon 2013

As planned, 10 Nov 2013 was a lucky day; I was running my 4th half marathon of my running journey.

It was a mix of road and trail running, this was the first time i ran off-road. It was a perfect day for a run. Woke up at 0500 hrs. checked out from hotel Deep and headed towards Gandhi chowk Library bazaar via mall road. Steve did briefing and we started exactly at 0730 hrs.

The route was exactly the same which I traced a day before at morning. That followed like Gandhi Chowk > Company bagh > Everest house > return back to the same route > pass the Gandhi chowk > mall road > Woodstock college finished.

It was a mix of all off-road, killing elevation, no path. But then completed the run within 3 hrs.

Track here…

Took some snaps along the way.

Delhi Mathura Cycling

2nd November 2013: Delhi to Vrindavan ride, Vrindavan to Mathura rail bus travel n back, Night stay at Vrindavan.

3rd November 2013: Vrindavan to Mathura ride, if legs permits ride back to Delhi same route.

Ber Sarai (0600hrs) > Surajkund road > Faridabad > Ballabhgarh (35km) > Palwal (24km) > Hodal (28km) > Kosi Kalan (15km) > Vrindavan (40km, 1530hrs) = 144km Total.

Rail Bus: Vrindavan railway station (1740hrs) > Mathura (1815hrs): Mathura (1925hrs) > Vrindavan (2000hrs).

Woke up at 0500 hrs and within an hrs. was ready to roll. It was all well except the rack, bastard betrayed me at the last moment, made me carry the bag on my shoulders. It was a beautiful sunrise rolling down surajkund road, crossed the Budkal road touching the Mathura road at Gandhi chowk.

A straight ride, a lot of stoppage and by the time reached Vrindavan crossing, I was damn tired. 2 O’clock I made it there. 8 hrs. of ride time, 137 kms. with 17 km/h average speed.

Welcome to the home of Krishna, Widows, prayers, animals on the road, and there met with a 9th standard kid who helped me find a room for 500 bucks.

1740 hrs. I was out there at Vrindavan railway station. Only a rail bus runs from this station till Mathura. All the major trains pass through another station called Vrindavan Road.

Came back from the same rail bus, it was a nice and first experience travelling in rail bus. Dinner at the dhaba near the hotel and slept just to wake up late by 9 o’clock. Was too tired to get up early and start, but then again started riding towards Mathura. 20 kms ride, half a kg Mathura ke Pede sweets, bike on the roof of the bus, by 5 o’clock I was at Sarai Kale Khan bus stand with a small cut on the handlebar tape and was home sweet home after some 15 kms. of more ride.

Airtel Hyderabad Half Marathon 2013

First run of 2013, it was Hyderabad Half on 25th August. I was in Hyderabad during that time and ran without any preparation! Yes, not even a single run before running. New shoes were brought from bib distribution expo, on a day before race i.e. 24th Aug! Asics shoes for around 6000/- with 10% discount.

Race was good. There were good numbers of water points and medical facility was adequate too, in short simply liked the run.

The route was challenging too, it started from Hussain Sagar bank and finished at Gachiboli stadium. Before that I cycled the freedom ride, on 15th of August, mark of the 66th completed years of Independence. Knee pain was hurting a lot but then completed the race within 3 hrs., as promised to myself.

A day before race, @ expo which was organised at Hitex, Hyderabad.

Perfect run!!!!!

Here’s the victory.

Refreshment and amazingly it was only for the runner, they stamped on the bib that I have taken mine.. no second inning or for friend..

First time experience at the running court @ Gachiboli stadium!

The Freedom Ride 15th Aug 2013

This was one of the biggest corporate event organised by The Atlanta Foundation, on 15th August to celebrate the independence day. I was in PRIDE ride category, riding 66th mark of independence, riding 66 kms. on beautiful road of Hyderabad. It was a fun riding, fairly organised and big crowd too.

I set the finish time of 3 hrs. but completed the circle in 05.30 hrs. I would have completed it within my set time, since it was a group ride, I had to stick with the group. They were riding local brands and are not regular riders, result, slow pace n a lot of snacks break. I must salute both my fellow riders for their stamina and endurance.

XCheck got a good response from the crowd. And overall a different celebration day.

Happy Independence Day India!!

Hyderabad–Bidar Cycling Trip

No idea what’s written on that board, but it was a hell of a day trip covering more than 130 kms.

2013-07-27 14.36.10

Route – Hyderabad < Kondapur > NH9 > Zaheerabad > NH4 > Bidar.

Distance – 130 Km. approx..

Time – 05:30 am to 03:00 pm

Fuel – 3 snickers, 4 5stars, 6 bottles of water, 1 biscuit, tea, 2 apples

Punctures – 1

Surly Cross Check was a week old now. During this period I was doing some morning rides around Kondapur. Weekend came and it was time to do what XCheck was suppose to. So I took her out on Saturday morning to go for a century ride, heading towards Bidar.

I was searching internet about weekend gateway, where I can go for a night and come back without much hassle. Then Bidar came in picture, saw couple of riders have done it before and there are some good places to hang around so Bidar was finalised. Checked Google map and note down the routes important points like name of the places, right or left turns etc.

There was not much to pack and carry along. Just a bag with a shirt, trouser, and rain coat. Saddle bag was with a Swiss knife, multi-tool kit, cell phone, puncture repair kit. And a water bottle.

Started at 05:30 in the morning, the idea was to ride there, stay there for a night and ride back. Crossing the city was easy as no one was there early in the morning. The Bike Affair’s team was out riding, they asked me if am joining them, pointed out I was without helmet. Its a easy route with no-nonsense, trucks & busses were as usual in there get-off-the-road-am-bigger-and-faster-than-you kind of attitude. Many times I had to get off the road and ride in potholes. The result was a puncture. I was waiting for a auto for a lift, and then a kind soul told that the puncturewala is about a furlong, walked and he was correct. All the villagers witnessed the repair with a lot of questions what’s the cost? Chinese? how do you came to know about it? where you going? They were amazed to see a different cycle I guess.

Weather can’t be better than this, it was a perfect day to ride. Witnessed some good landscapes, headwind was very strong though. The ride past Zaheerabad is really nice with almost no traffic. But I was damn tired by now, stopping every couple of kms. and that resulted the idea of staying there. So after some brainstorming, talking with friend I decided to return back.

Volvo man was charging 600 bucks for bike only, plus ticket 150 bucks. headed towards govt. bus stand, talked to the driver. 200 bucks, XCheck on roof of the bus and at 08:00 o’clock I was off to Hyderabad.

Again 5 km of cycling back home and reached home @ midnight, without food.

2013-07-27 08.36.33

this was the first stop, realised have come far from city now.

2013-07-27 09.19.51

Tired and resting in a greenery.

2013-07-27 10.57.03

It was a beautiful landscape, rested there for an hour. Lying down on green grass was great.

2013-07-27 10.58.41

XCheck is a great ride, handling is nice. Trucks speeding crossing the white line forcing me to go off-road.

Night Ride and Fall.

When we enjoy ourselves, we tend to forget our surroundings, rather we just want to be in that state. This happened to me last night. Weather was nice and Delhi got its second monsoon shower of this year. So I was headed towards India Gate after dinner. Plan was to cycle there and enjoy the weather.

And during that enjoyment suddenly bike got skidded on concrete, I couldn’t control myself and within a second I was lying on the road. Nothing serious though.

2013-06-14 23.09.00

minor scratches…

The ground near AIIMS looked inviting, so rested there, washed the scratch and some healing. The air was so fresh and nice there, lying on green grass, open air invisible stars though.. I spent three hours there just lying with my bike. Fabulous time…..

2013-06-14 23.35.30

I was there by choice no doubt, however, there were so many people sleeping there everyday. The auto & rickshaw walas, some kids, old sleeping in groups. Misery but can’t help it, this is what we call LIFE…

2013-06-15 00.13.57

My sweet ride resting in peace and enjoying. Colour looking so different…

Then I saw, I was disturbing mosquitos and decided to head back to the cage called room. Fan is running in full speed but the air inside room too hot and humid to sleep. By 3 o’clock I was inside the cage. God! when will I grow old.
