Guwahati Half 2014

[Plan] [1] [2]
Green Valley bus was ready at 0430 to take us to the race start point from IIT campus. By the time the bus started it was already 0530. Then it was the race start point. Unlike other races they started registration giving bib number, which was strange. 21K run started around 0700, early morning sun, running by the Brahmaputra river was a unique experience. Since there was no timing chip and everything was manual. As per my own calculations I finished within 0230 bus. Overall race was okay, water glucose points were at every km mark, a running ambulance too. But medical facility on round was lacking. I asked for spray as my knee started giving me pain after 15 km mark, but there was none.

Apart from that a good run, in a different location: in city of eastern Jones.

Airport was some 24 kms from the run finishing point and auto wallah charged me 400 bucks for an hour ride.

Flight was delayed by 30 min, however, was able to cover up half of it. A walk and bus ride; I was at my place.

CRPF Half Marathon 2014

Sunday, 12th Oct is the race day, starting JLN stadium – circling india gate – return from jantar mantar.
Just collected the goodie bag kit and bib number is going to be 116.
Well! with no preparation at all this time its going to be another painful day.

It was a mess at the kit distribution. It was supposed to open at 0930 but due to some technical issues ‘as per the announcement there’ distribution started around 1130 for half marathon category. CRPF was blaming BookMyShow agents and vice versa for the problem.

Those who are looking for directions – get down at JLN stadium gate no 4 > go straight > take left at the gate to CRPF ground and you will see some tents with serial numbers. First you have to get into a queue for your bib number, note down that bib number & serial number. That serial number is the tent you have to get lined for the goodie bag (running bib & chip, t-shirt (XL) and a cap).

Happy Running!!!

EDIT:- Completed the race. timing 024500 hrs.

Delhi Half Marathon 2013

Last run of the year and finished it well; with the timing of 02:23:40, the best ever so far in my running feat.

A relatively cold day in Delhi; 15th December 2013, I was at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium group C line up. The race flagged off or rather I started running exactly at 0740.

At finish, my mobile app ‘My Tracks’ says total 22.54 km of run in 02:25:12 with average pace of 9.31 km/hrs. & max speed 17.42 km/h. but the race official time says 02:23:40 finish time.

Anyways it was within 02:30, which was my target, m glad I achieved it.

Mussoorie Half Marathon 2013

As planned, 10 Nov 2013 was a lucky day; I was running my 4th half marathon of my running journey.

It was a mix of road and trail running, this was the first time i ran off-road. It was a perfect day for a run. Woke up at 0500 hrs. checked out from hotel Deep and headed towards Gandhi chowk Library bazaar via mall road. Steve did briefing and we started exactly at 0730 hrs.

The route was exactly the same which I traced a day before at morning. That followed like Gandhi Chowk > Company bagh > Everest house > return back to the same route > pass the Gandhi chowk > mall road > Woodstock college finished.

It was a mix of all off-road, killing elevation, no path. But then completed the run within 3 hrs.

Airtel Hyderabad Half Marathon 2013

First run of 2013, it was Hyderabad Half on 25th August. I was in Hyderabad during that time and ran without any preparation! Yes, not even a single run before running. New shoes were brought from bib distribution expo, on a day before race i.e. 24th Aug! Asics shoes for around 6000/- with 10% discount.

Race was good. There were good numbers of water points and medical facility was adequate too, in short simply liked the run.

The route was challenging too, it started from Hussain Sagar bank and finished at Gachiboli stadium. Before that I cycled the freedom ride, on 15th of August, mark of the 66th completed years of Independence. Knee pain was hurting a lot but then completed the race within 3 hrs., as promised to myself.

Goa Trip & Goa River Marathon 2012

Well, the end of 2012 couldn’t be better than this. The pain of ADHM was not gone yet I was preparing to run another marathon. Hip joints pain was tearing me apart since ADHM, but then when there is a will, there’s a way. On 9th October I was determined to run GRM (Goa River Marathon) 2012, without much preparation though. Reservation was in Train no 12218 (runs from Chandigarh to Kerala, good train). On 5th I boarded the train from New Delhi and reached Madgaon (Goa) at 9PM on 6th Dec. I was late and tired so without much hassle, I laid my blanket on platform and slept in open air.

Day 1 (7th Dec)

Madgaon is small place like other Goa cities. My plan was to visit Colva beach and roam around. I woke up at 5 a.m. had my tea from near stall and went ahead. A motorist asked me where am I up to, I ignored him just to find out later that these yellow plated motorists are govt. approved just like rickshaws in Delhi. I walked with a smile, finally I was in Goa. So I just walked and walked till I got tired and enquire about local bus adda.

Since GRM was to start from Vasco De Gama, I planed to make Vasco as my base for rest of my stay. So the first task was to search a room and get rid of the bag I was carrying. Very soon I got a bus to Vasco but had to wait for another bus, guess why? yeah, window seat.

By noon I was at Vasco and found a hotel with 1500 bucks for two days. I had to collect my running bib so after the formalities I headed to the Baina beach where Vasco sports club has organised the expo. Sun was in full glory, it was very hot. The arrangement were good at expo, shops around and some band was there also.

Before collecting the bib, I thought to have a deep breath near the mighty sea shore. I quite did it too.

Got my bib (no 1240 ) and came back at the hotel for further Goa exploring. I had heard a lot about Panaji (Panjim), the Portugal’s built it and I must say they did well.

The arrangement were good all the way, less number of medical add though.

Panaji is fine city with lots of streets like this and full of foreigners.. Churches at every corner, I took walking tour of 6 km. starts from Church of our lady of the immaculate conception and return at same place.

Day 2 (8th Dec)

Woke up at 5 next day, headed for a walk towards Baina beach. Ran across the beach till sun rise and came back just to get ready, marched towards bus stand. The plan was to visit Calangute beach, Aguada fort and watch sunset from there. Goa local transportation is very good, buses are available at regular interval. One can hire a bike on rent as well, its very famous there.

Day 3 (9th Dec, Race Day)

Finally the D day was here, got up at 04:30 a.m. and reached at Baina beach, the race starting point. I submitted the bag, wore bib, timing chip and waited for clock to get set go. Legs were paining, the previous days walk along the shore from Aguada fort to Calangute beach walk helped a bit and gave me much sought confidence. I had a target of 02:30 finishing time so 8km per hrs. pace was required. First 5 km were cakewalk but then body started loosing its pace, at the same time mind picked up the pace and continued. 02:30 bus caught me around 13 km mark and I was behind them till the finish. Achieved timing of 02:31, my personal best.
